What is the Reflect-O-Mat MK2 Kneel Mat and cross check reflector you ask?
We are really pleased to present the Reflect-O-Mat™ Mk2... it's the same dependable, hard wearing base material as the Mk1, but now all the print is done using the same robust print method as the white stripes on the original Mk1 Reflect-O-Mat™ and it's all on one side. With the Reflect-O-Mat Kneel Mat and cross check reflector, you can quickly switch from one type of reflection to the other, getting more detailed information about the dent than ever before, making your repair easier, better, faster or all of the above! Reflect-O-Mat™ is now a registered Trade Mark and a Patent has been applied for. Designed by dent repairers, Manufactured by world leaders in knee care. Once you've used one, you’ll never want to be without one!
Lines or Fog?
Born out of an original idea brought to us by Mark from Impact Dents Ltd up in the North East of England (they breed em tough up there you know!), the Reflect-O-Mat™ is a durable high impact, industrial quality kneel mat, made from surprisingly robust, incredibly comfortable, industrial grade waterproof and oil proof material. The Mk2 has one side unprinted and is always the side to go onto the floor, the top side is printed with incredibly tough, crisp white parallel lines on the jet black background on one half, with a wide "colored fog" effect at the other, producing a reflection no dent can hide from. If you prefer to work with lines, or if you prefer to work with fog, we've got you covered, just throw the Reflect-O-Mat™ down on the ground with the colored side up and get to work. The best bit is that, while we all cling to our beloved Fog or our brutally truthful Lines, both lines AND fog can both bring different information to the table. If, like me, you are a fog user, you can set the mat up so that you are generally using the fog side of the top face for much of the cross checking of your repair, but a slight movement of your head will also scan the lines over it and can often highlight something else that you otherwise wouldn't have spotted until later. The same goes, but opposite, for those of you who swear by the use of lines, set up your Reflect-O-Mat so that you are mainly using the lined side of the top face and on occasion, move your line of sight slightly wider to view the dent in the fog and you may find that it uncovers some tiny bit of useful information about your repair that you may have otherwise missed until later in the repair. Both ways, you get more information about the job you are doing and are therefore able to make better, more informed decisions about the repair as you progress. Yes, this could actually go some way to help bring the Fog and the Lines closer! Divided we fall, but together we stand! ?
What is it made of?
The Reflect-O-Mat Mk2 combined Kneel Mat and cross check reflector is resistant to petroleum based liquids, so perfect for use around the motor industry and it t won't soak up water, so when you throw it down in a puddle to stop your trousers from getting wet, it won't become water logged and start to fester, like it can with other mats as they soak up water which then stagnates over the weekend, making your van smell like a swamp when you get back behind the wheel on a Monday morning! It's a whole 25mm (1") thick and it doesn't stay compressed after loading, it bounces right back time after time, so always comfortable, always protecting.
How do you use it?
Using your normal light board as you normally would to carry out your repair, you can comfortably kneel on the mat and periodically just look down, without having to reposition your light, use the mat to cross check throughout the repair, making it easy to spot errors or imperfections and correct them before they become a problem and thus speeding up your repair time while improving finish quality and protecting your knees. What's not to like?
Health and Safety?
We all tend to overlook industrial safety in the PDR industry, our collective age is relatively young and so we don't tend to consider the long term effects of kneeling down on cold hard uneven surfaces. The long term effects on our knees of doing what we do, can be crippling in later life, but we rarely consider that until it's too late. I'm now in my mid fifties, been doing PDR for coming up to 30 years and I wish we'd had the Reflect-O-Mat back then, I'd be way better on my knees if we had!
When we designed the Reflect-O-Mat™, we didn't want to make it just good, we wanted it to be awesome, so it is no accident that after extensive worldwide comparisons, we chose Working Concepts Inc. in the USA to manufacture it for us. They have been manufacturing industrial kneel mats and safety floor protection for around 25 years and are undoubtedly the world leader in Quality knee protection. They may not be the cheapest, but they are nice people, they know their stuff, we think they are the best and we are proud to be working with them.
One Reflect-O-Mat™ (without packaging) weighs around 630g (1.4lb) and measures around 25mm x 305mm x 530mm (1" x 12" x 21.5")
